01 Pay close attention to the health of the elderly,

Measure body temperature

Measure the body temperature for the elderly once a day in the morning and evening (contact thermometers should be dedicated to individuals. If they cannot be dedicated to individuals, they should be thoroughly disinfected before use. Non-contact body temperature guns should be disinfected regularly according to the use requirements), and ask the elderly about their physical condition at any time.

Management of the Elderly with Chronic Diseases

Remind the elderly who take medicine for a long time for chronic diseases to take medicine regularly, not to change dressing or stop taking medicine easily, and to inform the nursing staff in time if they have physical discomfort. Conditional pension institutions should observe the physical condition of the elderly with chronic diseases by detecting blood pressure, blood sugar, respiratory status, weight, etc., pay attention to the presence of insufficient or excessive drug use, and adverse drug reactions (especially postural hypotension and hypoglycemia) to prevent falls.

Strengthen the propaganda and education of novel coronavirus pneumonia knowledge

Inform the elderly that there is no confirmed effective antiviral treatment method for novel coronavirus pneumonia at present, and do not take preventive drugs without authorization.

02 Guidelines for Medical Treatment

In case of physical discomfort or disease onset of the elderly, the old-age care institution shall communicate and discuss with the elderly and their families in a timely manner. After reaching an agreement, the old-age care institution shall handle the matter through the medical personnel in the institution, call the medical institution for help, invite the doctors of the medical institution to make a visit, call 120 emergency calls for medical treatment or send the family to the doctor. If conditions permit or according to the occupancy service agreement, the staff of the pension institution shall accompany and assist in medical treatment.

How to deal with chronic diseases, etc.

Chronic basic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, etc.), skin diseases, general allergy, slight sprain and abrasion, general dental treatment, routine rehabilitation, etc. can be treated conservatively by means of outpatient visits, etc. It is not recommended to go out for medical treatment.

Drugs commonly used by the elderly are solved by family members and institutions through entrustment of drugs and purchasing on their behalf.

How to deal with respiratory symptoms?

Elderly people with cough, expectoration, sore throat, headache and other symptoms without aggravation and no epidemiological history (they have not contacted confirmed or suspected patients in novel coronavirus pneumonia within 14 days, and have not entered or left communities or activity places with confirmed or suspected patients) can be treated as common cold in the institution and will not go out for medical treatment for the time being.

With chronic respiratory diseases (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, etc.), the elderly with stable condition can take routine drugs under the guidance of doctors.

If the illness worsens and endangers life, the medical institution must be contacted immediately for referral.

How to deal with fever?

  1. Acute fever, if there is no epidemiological history, can be isolated and observed in the institution first, and treated according to the general cold fever;
  2. If conditions permit in the institution, routine examinations such as blood routine, liver and kidney function, CRP, etc. can be improved (or blood is drawn and sent to nearby medical institutions for examination).
  3. Consult relevant medical institutions at the same time. It is necessary to send a doctor again.

Once the elderly suffer from acute exacerbation of chronic diseases or sudden acute diseases, the old-age care institutions shall immediately implement rescue measures within their capabilities, call 120 emergency calls to send doctors, and promptly notify the families of the elderly.

Acute and critical diseases include but are not limited to: acute heart failure, stroke, myocardial infarction, cardiac and respiratory arrest, acute injury and trauma, acute poisoning, acute chest pain and abdominal pain, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, intestinal obstruction, severe pneumonia, severe diarrhea and dehydration and other diseases, as well as critical and severe conditions of nervous, cardiac, respiratory, digestive, urinary and other systems.
